Did you know we are more than just a fishing charter? We also offer Apostle Islands water taxi services.
Did you know that you can camp on 18 of the 21 islands in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore? There are sites ranging from large group sites to accommodate up to 21 people, to more traditional sites with designated spots and even primitive camping locations located in the backcountry of some of the islands. Not many people take advantage of this opportunity because they are unaware of how to get to these island campsites. Let us be your Apostle Islands Water Taxi to get you to some of the most secluded camp spots in Northern Wisconsin.
The islands are only accessible by sea kayak, motor boat, sail boat, or Apostle Islands water taxi. This keeps most sites pretty private, however there are some locations that tend to be a little busier than others due to the accessibility.
Stockton Island is a favorite for most, one of our favorite places to hike and forage as well. It boasts two separate docking locations for boat access along with several popular anchorages located around the island.
Quarry Bay dock was recently rebuilt with limited dockage available for vessels wishing to camp or spend the day on the island. It offers 3 sites, 1 individual and 2 Group Campsites. It has numerous hiking trails to explore such as the 1.6 mile Quarry Bay trail that ends at an old brownstone quarry. You can find some of the old machinery, and cut brownstone blocks that were left in place when the quarry came to a stop in 1896. It also has a beautiful beach with considerable rock structures on both sides.
Presque Isle is the larger of the two dock opportunities offering a protected harbor, ranger station and a half mile long beach with 19 individual campsites. Presque Isle has abundant hiking trails that are well marked and take you to one of the best beaches on Lake Superior. Julian Bay, with its singing sand is just a mile hike to the North East and will wow you with its picturesque views reminiscent of the Caribbean. While it is a more popular campground, it also has a lot to offer with numerous hiking trails, miles of sand beaches as well as an artesian well. Apostle Island water taxi is available through multiple park service vendors, however we regularly shuttle folks to Stockton.
While Stockton tends to be one of the most popular camping spot with nearly a 3rd of all campsites, there are many other treasured sites throughout the islands. Some of our other favorites are located on Otter, with a East facing view you can see a lot of the Apostle Islands Lakeshore. Manitou Island also has a great campsite with a ton of history at the old Manitou Island Fish Camp. Outer Island even has a site on the southern sand spit that will get you away from just about everything. While not all campsites have docks to get a boat on, we can get you there with our Apostle Islands water taxi 26’ Sea Cat that has the ability to get on just about any beach in the islands and get you safely to your campsite.
While we have covered some of our favorites, there is a lot more to see and explore throughout the islands. Feel free to give us a call or send us a message through our website to gain a bit more insight about all of the opportunities that the Apostle Islands have to offer through our Apostle Islands Water Taxi.
